The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has announced the impending increase of the NBI clearance fee starting next month.
Starting March 12 as advised by the Department of Justice (DOJ), applicants will have to pay Php15 more for their clearances. The hike will make the fee jump from Php130 to Php115.
According to the NBI, the increase in the clearance fee was brought about by the increase in the documentary stamp tax (DST) following the implementation of the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Law.
Section 12 of Revenue Regulations No. 4-2018, the rate of DST on certificate was increased from Php15 to Php30. The provision also noted that a fee of Php30 shall be charged for documentary tax on certificates.
Recently, NBI has started issuing multi-purpose clearances which eliminated the higher amount of specific-purposed clearances. The old pricing of NBI clearances can go up to Php415 depending on the purpose.
Meanwhile, documents from Philippine Statistics Office (PSA) such as birth, marriage and death certificates have earlier increased their fees which were also due to TRAIN Law.
The TRAIN Law has been in full swing this year with the exemption of income tax for employees whose income do not exceed Php250,000. Consequently, the same law applies increase in tax for some basic commodities and services.
